I took this picture at a Memorial Day Service outside Seattle 3 years ago. The service was at a cemetery near where I was living at the time. The flags were quite a sight.

I am in transition; I just moved to a new city and am looking for work. In this new phase of my life, I want to avoid past mistakes. Lately, I have been spending a lot of time dwelling over past failures. I have realized I need to make peace with my past and live more in the present. This is easier said than done. Today, I stumbled across this quote and it really spoke to me.
After I finished my last knitting project, I was at a loss as to what I wanted to work on next. When I would look at projects online, either I wasn’t inspired by the pattern or I didn’t have the yarn on hand. I don’t want to buy new yarn or supplies right now. I am watching my budget.
One night, I decided to see if I could teach myself to knit cables. I followed the instructions from the book, Stitch and Bitch by Debbie Stoller. I found out that knitting cables isn’t that hard. Also, I instantly loved making cables. The first swatch I made had several rows of purl stitch on either side of the cable. As you can see, that made the swatch curl up on the sides. After making my first swatch, I realized I could add a knit 2 purl 2 rib on either side of the cable and make a scarf. I now want to make other projects using cables. I also want to research different types of cables. The first picture is my first attempt. The second one is a picture of my scarf in progress.
Never regret. If it’s good, it’s wonderful. If it’s bad, it’s experience.
